چکیده

In the semi-classical limit the quantum mechanics of a stationary beam of counter-streaming relativistic electrons and ions is described by a nonlinear system of finite-temperature Thomas–Fermi equations. In the high temperature / low density limit these Thomas–Fermi equations reduce to the (semi-)conformal system of Bennett equations discussed earlier by Lebowitz and the author. With the help of a sharp isoperimetric inequality it is shown that any hypothetical particle density function which is not radially symmetric about and decreasing away from the beam’s axis would violate the virial theorem. Hence, all beams have the symmetry of the circular cylinder. ∗ In celebration of the 70 birthday of Joel L. Lebowitz. c ©2000 The author. Relativistic Thomas-fermi Model at Finite Temperatures

We briefly review the Thomas-Fermi statistical model of atoms in the classical non-relativistic formulation and in the generalised finite-nucleus relativistic formulation. We then discuss the classical generalisation of the model to finite temperatures in the non-relativistic approximation and present a new relativistic model at finite temperatures, investigating how to recover the existing the...

Static Properties of Trapped Bose Gases at Finite Temperature: Thomas-Fermi Limit

We rely on a variational approach to derive a set of equations governing a trapped self-interacting Bose gas at finite temperature. In this work, we analyze the static situation both at zero and finite temperature in the Thomas-Fermi limit. We derive simple analytic expressions for the condensate properties at finite temperature. The noncondensate and anomalous density profiles are also analyze...

The caloric curve (excitation energy per particle as a function of temperature) for finite nuclei is calculated within the non–linear Walecka model for different proton fractions and different parameterizations. The results obtained are compared with published experimental data and other theoretical results. Other properties related with the droplet formation as the surface energy, neutron skin...

Variational Calculations for the Relativistic Interacting Fermion System at Finite Temperature: Application to Liquid 3He

In this paper, at first we have formulated the lowest order constrained variational method for the relativistic case of an interacting fermion system at finite temperature. Then we have used this formalism to calculate some thermodynamic properties of liquid in the relativistic regime. The results show that the difference between total energies of relativistic and non-relativistic cases of liqu...
